The Diamond Racing Powerboat Team heads to the third and final round of the Australian Formula Powerboat Grand Prix Series this weekend, 21 & 22 April at Lake Mulwala, Yarrawonga.
Once again a strong field of Formula 2 drivers have entered for the final round with anyone capable of pulling off a race win in the three final races of the season.
Simon Troy (888 Racing) currently heads the championship table ahead of Adam Breen (Cracka Racing) and Ewan Bricker (TBR).
After claiming a well earned race win at Round 2, Diamond Racing driver, Scott currently sits in forth position.
Sadly the final race at Round 2 almost brought his series appearances to an end after his equipment was badly damaged in a dramatic accident.
With an opportunity to end on the podium at seasons end along with a placing in the Australian championship the team decided to push ahead and began "The Race to Race" at the final round.
Scott and his lead mechanic Mark Jakins (Outboard Technical Services) returned to their home state of Tasmania to rectify any possible engine issues.
In the meantime the damaged boat and equipment was taken to the central coast of New South Wales where sponsor Gavin Simmons (Symmons Landscaping) along with the much valued assistance of fellow powerboat races, Bob Beasley, John Fowler and others, stripped the boat, ready for transport further north to the Coffs Coast.
A quick call was made to John and Matt of JT Fibreglass Specialists who operate at Woolgoolga on the Mid North of NSW shortly after the incident. After explaining the damage at what may be required and asking if they could help in the short time frame available they immediately offered to assist and make it happen.
Working some overtime and using the very latest in composite materials and techniques they managed to have all the repairs along with some other additional maintenance issues completed in just 10 days.
Following this the hull was returned to the central coast where it is being refitted. A new rear cowling was also required and thanks to Craig Simmons it should be in place before the boat departs in its transporter to Yarrawonga this Thursday.
Final preparations will not be completed until Scott and Mark arrive at Yarrawonga from Tasmania on Friday.

The Diamond Racing Powerboat Team hopes to turn around its fortunes when it competes at Round 2 of the 2018 Australian Formula Powerboat Grand Prix Series at Griffith this weekend, March 10 & 11.
Round 1 at Newcastle did not go as planned for the Tasmanian based team as it battled to pin point an intermittent electrical issue.
Driver, Scott Cleary was unable to complete any meaningful laps in the practice session and then struggled to record a qualifying lap due to the lack of trim.
Under the circumstances he recorded a respectable qualifying lap time but continuing issues hampered his progress in the first race.
With the electrical issues rectified for the second race, Scott got away to an excellent start and was well positioned to move forward until two boats come together bringing out the red flag.
Organisers decided against restarting the race due to the weather conditions.
Round 1 was a lot of effort for little on water action and reward.
The team believe they are well prepared and are hoping for a much improved outcome this weekend at Griffith.
The cost of transporting the team and gear back and forward from the island state bites hard into its budget. It is only with the support of John Weston Architectural Design, Simmons Landscaping, Outboard Technical Services, Diamond World and Toleman & Co. Showcase Jewellers that the team could commit to the round.
